PE Funding

All schools receive a specific grant to develop active and healthy lifestyles. This year we have received £8915.

We have used this to support employing a PE instructor to work in the school. This role means that all the children receive specialist sports coaching each week. We are also able to offer a wide range of clubs during lunchtimes and after school. These clubs include; football, netball, basketball, cross country running, indoor athletics, futsal and volley ball. Some of these clubs are targeted to particular groups of children to encourage their participation and activity.

All children are involved in half termly school tournaments including; football, cross country, dance, rounders and athletics. The aim of these events is to motivate the children to keep active, work as part of team and experience a competitive situation.

This year at Angel Road Junior School, our children have participated in a wide range of great activities and sports.

All children enrolled have competed in half-termly events to determine which house will win the school’s sports cup this year. We have had football, dance, cross-country, dodgeball and rounders tournaments, which together with our annual activities day, will determine our overall winner.

A large number of our children have had the opportunity to represent the school in competitions against other schools this year. We have competed in football, cross country, fencing, archery, tri-golf and tag rugby. Mrs. Wigger and Mr. Cunningham are also organising a Rounders tournament to be hosted at our school.

As well as in competition, the children have learnt many new skills in their PE lessons. We have covered: dance, gymnastics and athletics in PE, in addition to: rounders, kwik cricket, rugby, tennis, netball and basketball in our games lessons.

The children have also had the opportunity to attend our extra-curricular clubs this year, both after school and at lunch time. The children have been able to improve their skills in:

  • Archery
  • Self-defence
  • Netball
  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Futsal
  • Dance
  • Baton twirling
  • Rounders
  • Dodgeball
  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • Athletics
  • Tri-golf
  • Hockey

Most recently, Mr Cunningham has organised a group of year 5 sports leaders who have been organising and running their own lunchtime activities for the other children. This has been extremely successful, and they are well on the way to earning their bronze certificate.
